Hello from Liberia! We had a 7 hour drive from Monrovia to Ganta on Saturday. The roads are in very poor condition, so it was a very slow commute. We arrived at Reverend Priscilla's house in the early evening, unpacked and had a wonderful meal.
On Sunday morning, we went to the Miller McAllister United Methodist church located across from the Ganta Mission Station and enjoyed the 2 hour service filled with rich Liberian tradition. We returned back to the house to change and have lunch. Then we went to the Leper colony near the mission station. There we were able to visit the patients being treated for three illnesses including Leprosy and TB and learn about the care that the patients receive. They have a shop onsite that sells the handmade baskets and greeting cards made by the patients.
We toured the agricultural division of the Ganta mission station to see the livestock managed by Peter, the Field Supervisor. Afterwards, a few of us stopped to view a kick ball game before heading back to the house for the evening.
Great news to hear that you have arrived safely and are able to begin your work. Thanks for sharing your journey through this blog. We will continue to remember you in our prayers.
